As the celebrations of the end of the year wind down and the party settles, you go to sleep December 31st with hopes and dreams of the New Year, falling asleep with thoughts of all the potential right around the corner.  January 1st, you wake up, and you are bombarded with ads everywhere of “New Year, New You” slogans, and it is a great slogan.  Everything from “New Year, New You” try this diet and that diet.  It is as if every diet company comes out of the woodwork to get your business.  “New Year, New You” get your new car ads, “New Year, New You” buy a new home. “New Year, New You” buy, buy, buy.  Then on the radio shows they joke about how by the second week of January you have fallen off the wagon and back to your old ways.

Well, I have a New Year’s resolution for you, if I dare call it that.  How about taking things in small steps.  Instead of going on a full blown diet, start eating cleaner.  If going to the gym makes you miserable, and you beat yourself up for not going, take a walk around your neighborhood.  Every little thing you do, adds to your life helps, it is beneficial.

Meditation

Here is something that I don’t think most people think of, meditation.  You jump into the New Year ready to take on a diet or promise yourself to hit the gym every day, or not to drink as much, spend more time with your family, whatever it is.  How about spend a few minutes a day or night and meditate.  Either just meditate quietly, or with a guided meditation, it can be for just 3 minutes.  We build up so much crap from our everyday life and experiences that it becomes this trap of mundane and overwhelm where we fall prey to our old habits.  No wonder we feel stuck, “fall off the bandwagon.”

My suggestions are while embracing the New Year and the New You, look within, give yourself the opportunity to be in peace for at least 3 minutes a day, then work to twice a day if you can, or just start increasing the time.  You will find that you are better able to stay on that diet, continue going to the gym and find inner peace and happiness you can carry throughout the whole year!
